Kind of a sweet sentiment to start off this winter week, but it’s actually more than a just a pretty idea. Ask someone who’s ever seen one of their dreams come true, and they’ll tell you they believe in magic. They may not say so explicitly, and they will probably also talk about the value of planning and infinite hard work, but then they’ll factor in a little good fortune, or luck, also known as the inexplicable presence of exactly the right elements at exactly the right moment that helped the dream materialize into reality. Sounds a lot like magic to me.
Creating what isn’t already there is a magical endeavor. Whether it’s simply gathering knowledge, something more complex like building a community or starting an organization from the ground up, or the ongoing task of becoming the person you ultimately want to become, believing that the universe has your back is not only nice, it’s useful. It makes sure you’re awake – that you’re paying attention to what’s transpiring around you – and that you don’t miss the split second when you can bring it all together and bring your vision closer to life. You’ll never be able to make the most of the opportunities you never see.
“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” – R. Dahl, The Minpins
